Commissioner embarks on safer schools campaign

Maxambela said measures to improve security on school premises are being implemented to ensure learners have a safe space to thrive academically.

EVATON. – Sedibeng District Police Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho lead a safer schools campaign at Lindisa Primary School in Evaton. Mukwevho was joined by SAPS management as she engaged learners around issues they are faced with on school premises on a daily basis.

Mukwevho urged learners to be vigilant at all times, warning them not to trust strange people easily.

During the visit, Mukwevho engaged pupils in matters related to different forms of abuse. She highlighted the right of every child to feel safe on school premises.

Various stakeholders, including Pawo, the Department of Community Safety, CPF, and Crime Prevention Wardens, joined the campaign.

Police spokesperson Thembeka Maxambela said 850 learners were reached and educated on forms of abuse, bullying, drugs, and substances and the importance of reporting crime when it happens.

Furthermore, Major General Mukwevho, alongside local businesses, donated about 50 school bags to pupils.

“33 learners were adopted by the Sedibeng District Management. This initiative is part of the ongoing “Adopt a Child” program. The program is designed to enhance safety and educational support, focusing on creating a secure and conducive environment for learners and educators”.

Maxambela said measures to improve security on school premises are being implemented to ensure learners have a safe space to thrive academically.

“This address marks the beginning of a focused effort to enhance the safety and overall well-being of learners and staff in Sedibeng schools.

Stakeholders, including local law enforcement, school authorities, and parents, are encouraged to participate actively.”
