SHARPEVILLE.- It was action galore over the weekend at various venues in Sedibeng with local teams battling it out in the SAFA Sedibeng Hollywood Region Men’s League.

The focus was on the top-of-the-table clash between the defending champions and log leaders, Young Pirates FC and Perfect Academy. This encounter ended in a goalless draw and was played at the packed George Thabe Stadium on Saturday. Pirates FC wanted to close the gap at the top while Academy wanted to stretch the lead. Local soccer fans came in big numbers to witness this exciting encounter.

The home team started the game at a high tempo, putting pressure on their opponents. Both teams assembled an exciting squad for this season, displaying high-level quality football. The visitors were not influenced by the home team supporters who were in a good mood and sang throughout the games. It was a game with limited scoring opportunities as both teams showed a lot of respect for each other. Pirates FC are the SAFA Sedibeng Regional League defending champions. They represented the Sedibeng region at the promotional play-offs but failed to gain promotion to the ABC Motsepe League.

Meanwhile, Vaal Juventus FC beat the struggling Celta Vigo Development FC 2-0 in another exciting regional league match at the Qedilizwe grounds. It was a derby with these two teams always producing five-star performances whenever they meet in an official game of kasi tournaments. Mmabatho FC and Ben 10 FC played to an exciting 2-all draw.

Still in the Hollywood Bet Regional League, Morning Stars FC suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Army Gym FC. To make matters worse, Army Gym FC looked like a relegation candidate last season. SUBS FC collected the much-needed maximum points when they beat Star Boys FC 2-1 in another regional league match at the Qedilizwe grounds on Saturday.
