Western Mounted Games qualifiers in Vaal

MEYERTON - Horse riders recently descended on the Cavallo Felice Stable Yard in Mooilande to compete in first and second qualifiers for the South African Western Mounted Games for 2025. Qualifiers 3 and 4 takes place this weekend in Sasolburg.

Held on January 25 and 26, the event saw a total of 280 riders over the two days, marking a significant growth from the 88 riders per day when Cavallo Felice Stable Yard first started hosting the games three years ago.

A total of 280 riders competed in first and second qualifiers for the South African Western Mounted Games for 2025.

The weekend kicked off with Qualifier 1, featuring events such as Figure 8 Flags, Hurry Scurry, Single Stakes, Bi-Rangle, and Quadrangle.

Each event showcased the remarkable agility and speed of both horse and rider, with many participants setting personal bests and pushing the limits of their abilities.

On Day 2, Qualifier 2 included equally thrilling events: Barrel Race, Keyhole, Figure 8 Stakes, Poles 1, and Speedball.

The competition was fierce, and it was a joy to witness the camaraderie and sportsmanship among the participants.

A highlight of the weekend was the close competition in the Figure 8 Flags and Barrels events. While the records set in 2024 still stand, riders came incredibly close to breaking them this year.

“Cavallo Felice Stable Yard, home to the Cavallo Felice Club with 14 passionate riders, has become a hub for equestrian enthusiasts.
