Sharpeville-born boy joins Botswana’s top team

"The boy has already settled and is looking forward to making a name for himself in Botswana's top league."

SHARPEVILLE.- Heaven rings in jubilations as one of the local soccer youngsters joined a top Botswana football club recently.

Ladies and gentlemen, Sharpeville-born Moeketsi Mokete (25) has officially joined Township Rollers FC from Botswana.

This Perfect Academy player was spotted during the Pooe Festive Soccer Tournament at the end of last year, by one of the club’s directors, Sipho Shaven, who happens to be a football agent. This was confirmed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by both parties that Mokete has penned down a two-and-a-half-year deal with the club.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Shaven said the boy has already settled and is looking forward to making a name for himself in Botswana’s top league.

Township Rollers FC is one of the biggest teams in Botswana.

The club in the past signed exciting players from South Africa; former Orlando Pirates midfielder, Thabo Rakhale who happens to come from the Vaal too, was one of them. Shavan told Sedibeng Ster Sport that Mokete will make an impact in Botswana football.

“I do not doubt that the boy will be a big thing in Botswana football. I saw him at the Pooe Festive Tournament in December. He is a special player and this is a great opportunity for him to establish himself as one of the best players, not only in Botswana but also in South African football. He will be competing on the biggest football stage in Botswana and this could open doors for him to play for Bafana Bafana,” explained Shaven.

Perfect Academy coach, Sechaba Mofokeng said that to have a player who was playing in the Regional Hollywood Bets League and now finds himself on the international stage is great for the Vaal Triangle.

“As Perfect Academy, we wish Moeketsi all the best with his new club and I have no doubt that he is going to make the Vaal proud,” concluded Mofokeng.
