“The constant change of leadership at our municipalities is led by the racist DA”: Mkhwane
"The DA’s strategy everywhere it is in opposition is clear: disrupt the stability of the municipality through petty MONCs such as they did in SDM and ELM."
SEDIBENG.- The African National Congress (ANC) in Sedibeng has said that the re-election of Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) Mayor, Lerato Maloka, and the defeat of the motion of no confidence in Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Executive Mayor, Sipho Radebe confirms that ANC unity and renewal agenda in Sedibeng is firmly on track.
The Sedibeng ANC, through its Regional Secretary, Jason Mkhwane hailed the re-election of Maloka to the position of Executive Mayor of the SDM and the defeat of what he said is the,
“Ill-thought Motion of No Confidence (MONC) in the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Executive Mayor Sipho Radebe, as clear signs that the party’s unity and renewal agenda in our region remains in the right track.”
“We congratulate Cde Lerato on her re-election. We stand solidly behind her as we know the quality of leadership, she brings to the SDM. We also commend Cde Sipho for triumphing over the MONC. Ours is a commitment to serving the people in the Sedibeng Region; we cannot be sidetracked by antics from the opposition,” said ANC Sedibeng Regional Secretary, Jason Mkhwane.

Three weeks ago, Maloka was unceremoniously removed from office through a Democratic Alliance (DA) initiated MONC, an act which Mkhwane said they (ANC Sedibeng) strongly opposed and deemed ill-advised and shortsighted as it was only meant to disrupt the Executive Mayor’s valiant efforts to improve service delivery in the district.
“We are acutely aware that the constant change of leadership at our municipalities, led primarily by the racist DA, is meant to disrupt our goal of serving our communities better. The DA’s strategy everywhere it is in opposition is clear: disrupt the stability of the municipality through petty MONCs such as they did in SDM and ELM, and blame the lack of service delivery on the ANC and its partners. We are happy that like-minded parties have seen through this strategy and are coming together to ensure that the people of Sedibeng get the quality services they deserve,” Mkhwane said.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Gauteng also expressed its disappointment over the re-election of Maloka.
The party said the decisions are an insult to the people of Sedibeng whom the party said have endured years without basic services such as clean drinking water, electricity, waste collection and safety.
