Midvaal gets going with new wheels

MLM procured six bakkies to facilitate site visits, transport health inspectors to various locations, and assist staff with water-related incidents and other essential duties.

MIDVAAL. – Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) revealed 15 new vehicles, increasing its service delivery fleet to a total of 268. The new fleet was purchased at a cost of R11m.

The launch of the new vehicles was held at the Midvaal Fire Department on February 21.

The fleet expansion aims to enhance service delivery across all communities served by MLM.

MLM Mayor Peter Teixeira says the vehicles will be allocated to various municipal departments to transport staff and address service delivery incidents.

“This includes water outages, sewer bursts, streetlight repairs, and tree felling.”

Among the new additions are two cherry pickers, acquired at a cost of R3m, to improve response times for streetlight repairs and tree maintenance.

“Additionally, a mobile truck has been procured to expand library services to more communities. Moreover, a bull skid steer has been purchased to assist with street sweeping in the CBD, and a roller vehicle has been acquired to support road maintenance efforts,” Teixeira explained.

MLM confirmed its commitment to investing in its fleet to ensure effectiveness in its service delivery mandate.
