Midvaal councillor Pieter Swart provided the information on the current state of the dam.
Based on data from Rand Water and the Department of Water & Sanitation, the dam’s storage level rose from 62.87% —an increase of 17.35% due to large inflows, which peaked at 1,211.9 m³/s on February 20.
The outflow remained constant at 16.8 m³/s, with closed sluices, which ensured a stable water supply.
On February 23, the Vaal Barrage showed a level of 7.5m, an outflow of 89.1 m³/s, and a water temperature of 21.8°C.
This dramatic recovery from low levels at the beginning of the year, driven by recent rains, highlights the dam’s critical role in regional water management, effectively balancing increased storage with constant outflows.
