Mofokeng’s memorial service was held at the Mafatsane Community Hall in Evaton on Thursday afternoon.

EVATON.- Colleagues, friends, political leaders, and the community paid homage to the award-winning photographer/journalist, Tumelo Mofokeng. Mofokeng’s memorial service was held at the Mafatsane Community Hall in Evaton on Thursday afternoon.

Mofokeng died at Sebokeng Hospital last Saturday.

Speaker after speaker described how Mofokeng loved his job, always carrying his camera as if he was ready for action. His colleagues at the Daily Sun said they would miss the hard news stories that Mofokeng used to write. Doreen Molefe, assistant editor at the Daily Sun, said it was no surprise that Mofokeng scooped the award for Journalist of the Year. She said he was a hard worker who did everything to bring the best stories for the publication.

Her sentiments were echoed by her colleague Comfort Tshabalala who told the mourners that Mofokeng will be missed in the newsroom.

Some of the political leaders and organisations that came to pay homage to Mofokeng included the DA’s Emfuleni North Constituency Head, Kingsol Chabalala, Emfuleni MMC Tumelo Mochawe, the secretary of the National Association of School Governing Bodies in the Sedibeng region, Thabiso Radebe, bikers, Tau Diarora, Theta FM, Sedibeng Ster, and KHD Radio to mention but few.

Some of the political leaders stated that Mofokeng’s wife and children wouldn’t struggle as they would take care of them. Mofokeng leaves behind his beautiful wife, Lindelwela Mofokeng, and two young children.

His funeral service is today, Saturday, at the same venue.

It will start at 8:00.
