Crime prevention awareness in Mamello

“They were also advised to inform their neighbours to watch over their homes when they leave."

VAAL MARINA.- The Vaal Marina SAPS and the Siyabangena patrollers conducted a door-to-door campaign at the Mamello informal settlement recently.

During the campaign, they educated the community about sexual offences, domestic violence, house burglaries and other crimes.

The community were given safety tips and advised to lock their gates and close their windows whenever they go to work or town.

“They were also advised to inform their neighbours to watch over their homes when they leave. They were also informed to look after one another to break the silence of sexual abuse and any kind of domestic violence happening in the area. If one sees a neighbour being abused, they can assist by notifying the police or domestic violence coordinator,” said police spokesperson Constable Tshilidzi de Huis.

The awareness continued by distributing school bags to school kids.

The community was left grateful.
