Suspects apprehended during Operation Shanela in Sedibeng District

Undocumented individuals were detained and are currently awaiting legal processing for deportation.

SEBOKENG. – The SAPS in Sedibeng District successfully conducted Operation Shanela in the Sebokeng recently.

Led by Colonel Mashele, the operation was executed by the following stakeholders:

– SAPS members from various Police Stations and Units in Sedibeng District

– Department of Community Safety

– Gauteng Traffic

– Gauteng Traffic Wardens

– CPF

– Siyabangena Patrollers

– Emfuleni Traffic

– COMPOL

– Ward Councillor and resulted in the arrest of (13) suspects for various offenses.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said that this operation prioritised the arrest of wanted suspects, visible policing patrols, and liquor license compliance enforcement with more Police officers deployed in the policing areas.

– Undocumented individuals were detained and are currently awaiting legal processing for deportation.

– 480 individuals and 229 vehicles were searched with eight vehicles being tested to verify whether they had been stolen.

– 21 identified premises and crime hotspots were searched and patrolled, leading to arrests for possession of drugs, individuals fined for drinking in public, and some drivers arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

– 10 liquor establishments were inspected, with two shut down for operating without a liquor license, two issued with fines for non-compliance with the Liquor Act

– Traffic officials issued over 29 AARTO infringement notices for violations of the Road Traffic Act.

– 13 suspects were arrested and a roadblock was set up in Moshoeshoe Street Sebokeng, with tactical and operational teams conducting compliance raids and law enforcement operations across the Sebokeng policing area.

On March 21 during the pre-Operation Shanela, the Sedibeng District Detectives apprehended over 65 suspects for various offenses, including gender-based violence, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, attempted murder, robbery with a firearm, rape, theft, possession of stolen goods, business robbery, house robbery, housebreaking, defeating the ends of Justice, trespassing and hijacking.

The Sedibeng District Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho thanked all members and stakeholders for their dedication, she further assured the community members of Sedibeng District that disruptive crime operations will continue to combat crime in their respective areas.
