Police do ‘door to door follow-ups’ in Mamello

“In Mamello it looks like fashion to have people drinking everyday."

SEDIBENG. – The Vaal Marina SAPS’ Social crime prevention unit held a ‘door to door’ campaign in Mamello recently.

The campaign was aimed at sharing safety tips with community and pamphlets of domestic violence and drug and liquor control were distributed.

“In Mamello it looks like fashion to have people drinking everyday and a lot of young people are no longer going to school, and they sit and consume alcohol the whole day. More of these awareness campaigns are to be conducted in future,” said police spokesperson, Constable Tshilidzi de Huis.

Earlier, the team had visited Sakhisizwe Day Care to conduct a few activities with kids such as singing, dancing and talking to them.

“We were there just to check their wellbeing and to create a bond and relationship with them.  We found it necessary for police official to create that relationship with kids for them to feel safe around the police so that when they are experiencing any kind of abuse, they will feel free to talk to the police,” De Huis said.

The following topics were addressed:

  • Bullying
  • Hygiene
  • Children’s Rights
  • Theft (Stealing)

In total sixty children were reached through the visit.
