MIDVAAL – There was high police visibility during the Easter Holidays in the Midvaal Local Municipality. Various operations were carried out by multi-disciplinary teams, including Gauteng Traffic Police, Midvaal Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, and Siyabangena Patrollers.
Speaking to Ster North, police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini said the ‘Arrive-Alive Campaign’ conducted in the Meyerton policing precinct aimed to educate motorists about the importance of adhering to the rules of the road.
“Motorists were sensitised about the danger they impose on themselves and others while driving under the influence of alcohol.
“Our members issued a stern warning to taxi drivers about violations of the rules. Pedestrians were advised on the dangers associated with crossing the highway, specifically the R59, which has high traffic volumes.”
Additionally, teams visited ATMs in the CBD, shopping centres, malls, filling stations, schools, and churches. A total of 12 people were arrested for various offences, including drinking and driving, drunkenness, and being undocumented. Zazini said all arrested persons will make an appearance in a court of law soon.
