‘Lifeline’ offered to local Nyaope addicts

Those who wanted help to go to rehab, develop their skills and find jobs, were also helped.

SEBOKENG.- Kingdom Sports and Recreation, Muso Fundament, Tau Dia Rora and other organisations partnered together to offer advise and guidance to ‘nyaope’ users at Ghetto Pub and Eatery in Zone 7, Sebokeng, on Saturday.

One of the organisers, Tshepang Sibiya, said that he personally knows the story of drug users and that they too are human and should be taken care of.

“We had a special day for our brothers and sisters who are heavily under drug siege. I know the story of drugs from my roots, as I don’t have a father today because of it. I had to stand up for our society to break the cycle,” said Sibiya.

He added that on the day, they shared love, care and empathy.

“We had speakers at the event to encourage and inspire them and we also had recovering addicts talking to them, youth in leadership as well as parents from the society to share their concerns about this ‘beast’ (Nyaope).”

One of the speakers included the popular Sylvester Mofokeng (A’ungitsheli lokho) who inspired the youth and warned them about the drugs and prison.

“We had this event to show love and compassion to our brothers who are rejected by society, so we joined hands to break the cycle. Our brothers are dying every day, every weekend we bury one, so we said, ‘It’s enough.’ We take pride in resorting hopes and igniting their potential again,” explained Sibiya.

Those who wanted help to go to rehab, develop their skills and find jobs, were also helped.
