Convert or repurpose Zone 11 stadium: Nkopane

" We believe it’s time to convert this stadium into an ‘Economic Business Plaza’ that can be utilised to attract investors to develop and empower communities."

SEBOKENG.- The chairperson of the Progressive Civic Congress (PCC) in Emfuleni’s sub-region has asked for the Zone 11 Stadium to be converted for business purposes.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Botiki Nkopane said that the empty promises by the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) to revamp the Zone 11 stadium continue to sound like a “broken political CD” for the past three decades.

The Zone 11 stadium has turned into an eyesore for community members who have resorted to turning it into a dumping site. Community members have also complained about it being used for criminal activities. Nkopane said that most sporting facilities in Sedibeng are often presented as a way to boost economic growth and host all interested sports fanatics, however, the enthusiasm of false hope and the evidence of the decaying condition of the infrastructure remain a hushed reality and a burden for the majority of voters.

“The Zone 11 stadium and others alike has turned into a shadow of their former glory under the administration of the so called ‘Government of Local Unity – GLU’ that comprises of other political parties, acting as the branches of the ANC in Sedibeng / Emfuleni Municipality to further advance the ignorance and failures of the current administration,” Nkopane said.

He added that they are aware and appreciate the efforts by good Samaritans and organisations who sometimes clean this stadium.

“Fact remains that this stadium is an historical sport facility and a source of many fond memories to many, however we believe it’s time to convert this stadium into an ‘Economic Business Plaza’ that can be utilised to attract investors to develop and empower communities by creating possible job opportunities for the vast majority of unemployed graduates and the youth.”
