IN PICS: Run celebrates Mother’s Day

“It was not about winning but having fun, and indeed we had a fun-filled day.”

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Kasi Athletics Club hosted a successful Mother’s Day race with mothers, children, and fathers running side-by-side at Cecil Oldridge Park on Sunday.

Despite it being a Mother’s Day event, male athletes also came in numbers to support this unique initiative, the first of its kind to celebrate mothers in sports.

The 5km and 10km races started at 7:00.

Sedibeng Ster Sport was there to witness this event and talk with various mothers who said they are thankful to Kasi Athletics Club for organising this race.

“We enjoyed ourselves, and are looking forward to next year’s race. It is not about going to glamorous events to celebrate Mother’s Day, but also doing something with our bodies. Exercise is important because some of us don’t have time, so this was ideal.”

Although some mothers admitted they are not athletes, they acknowledged that running alongside professional runners was a great feeling.

“It was not about winning but having fun, and indeed we had a fun-filled day,” said one participant.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Kasi Athletics Club’s, Refiloe Poe, hailed the event a success.

“We want to thank those who came to celebrate Mother’s Day with us, especially the mothers. As Kasie Athletics Club, we also want to acknowledge those male athletes who came to support this initiative,” said Poe.

All the participants received medals and goodie bags.
