Operation Shanela continues crack down on crime in Sebokeng

SEBOKENG.- Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba led and executed the operation with multidisciplinary law enforcement teams from various departments yesterday, May 15.

During the operation, 34 suspects were arrested for various offenses including:

– Selling liquor without a license

– Possession of drugs

– Illegal immigrants (individuals are currently awaiting legal processing for deportation)

– Harbouring of undocumented individuals

A day prior to the operation tracing was conducted by the detectives throughout the Sedibeng District, and they traced 139 suspects, of which 117 were arrested for the following serious offenses:

– Murder

– Attempted murder

– Armed robbery

– Common robbery

– Assault with grievous bodily harm and common assault, some of which are domestic violence related

– Business burglary

– Burglary residential

– Theft

– Rape

– Malicious damage to property

– Pointing of a firearm

– Contravention of a protection order

– Stock theft

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane, said that at the roadblock and stop and searches, 1 377 people were searched, 612 vehicles were searched, three identified premises were searched, of which two were found to be unlicensed shebeens, and 10 Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) infringement notices were issued.

Identified hotspots, malls, taxi ranks, filling stations, tuck-shops, scrapyards, recycling places, and schools were visited and patrolled.

Brigadier Ndaba stated that the operations are continuously aimed at stamping the authority of the state while maximising police visibility. She also applauded the members for their dedication, commitment, and for ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice. She further added that acknowledging employee efforts can significantly increase engagement and job satisfaction.
