Rand Water’s planned maintenance programme to continue

During the maintenance period, pumping capacity will be reduced at the Eikenhof, Palmiet, Mapleton, and Zwartkopjes systems.

SEDIBENG.- National water supplier, Rand Water, announced yesterday that it is scheduled to undertake critical maintenance on its key infrastructure starting tomorrow, Thursday, May 29, as part of its commitment to ensuring a sustainable and efficient water supply.

TheĀ  company said that the objective of this planned maintenance is to increase capacity and improve plant availability, reliability, and operational efficiency, thereby supporting a more resilient and adaptable water supply network in preparation for the anticipated increase in supply volumes from August 2025.

Maintenance activities will commence at different times and locations across various municipalities.

During the maintenance period, pumping capacity will be reduced at the Eikenhof, Palmiet, Mapleton, and Zwartkopjes systems.

The maintenance may also impact water provision to the local municipalities of Rand West, Mogale City, Merafong, Madibeng, Lesedi, Govan Mbeki, Rustenburg, Royal Bafokeng Administration, and Victor Khanye, Thembisile Hani, Midvaal and Emfuleni.

“The maintenance work has been strategically scheduled during the low consumption months of May to July 2025 to minimise disruptions and better manage the potential impact on water supply. In terms of Communication Protocol, Rand Water has officially notified its municipal customers regarding the upcoming project within the prescribed 21-day prior notice arrangement. This advance notice is intended to enable to inform their respective customers and implement suitable contingency measures and manage storage capacity at the municipal level effectively. As a result, municipal customers who will or likely to be impacted will advise consumers on the extent and the impact of water supply shortages in their respective areas.”
