“The driver did not flee the scene, he waited until all the necessary role players did their job.”

VEREENIGING. – A case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated by the Vereeniging police after a woman was hit by a vehicle while crossing the Waterdal Road near Boiketlong recently.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane, said that after examination by the Emergency Medical Services, the woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for the injuries that she sustained during the incident.
“The driver did not flee the scene, he waited until all the necessary role players did their job,” she said.
Commander Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba would like to urge the drivers and pedestrians to always be vigilant on Waterdal Road. Since its winter season, there may be smoke or mist, and it gets darker earlier than other seasons.
Drivers are advised to:
- Ensure safety while driving in darker conditions, prioritise good visibility by maintaining clean headlights and windshields.
- Reduce speed to compensate for reduced visibility and increased stopping distances, and maintain a safe following distance.
- Stay alert and focused, avoid distractions, and be aware of changing road conditions, especially slippery roads.
Pedestrians are advised to:
- Prioritise visibility and awareness. This includes wearing bright or reflective clothing, carrying a flashlight, and using designated crosswalks.
- When crossing, look both ways, even at crosswalks, and be aware of potential hazards, like turning vehicles.
