Youth Day Top 4 Tournament

The tournament gave upcoming stars a platform to showcase their talent.

SEBOKENG.- It was a hive of sporting activities at various venues in the Vaal over the weekend as part of the commemoration of June 16.

There was action galore at Zone 13 Technical Sports ground with local teams participating in the Mochini Top 4 Soccer Tournament, which came to an end on Monday.

It was grassroots football at its best, with youngsters showcasing their God-given talent. One For Sorry FC were crowned the tournament champions in the U11 section after they beat Rhinos FC 2-0 in the nail-biting final. The hero was none other than Khwesi ‘Malender’ Nale. He also scooped the Top Goal Scorer Award for his brilliant performance throughout the tournament.

Nicholas ‘Safe Hands’ Mokoena was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Both players represent One For Sorry FC. In another final of the day, Mighty Classic FC from Zone 19 was crowned the U15 champions. This was after they beat One For Sorry FC 4-3 on penalties. This was after the two teams played to a 2-2 draw after full time, and the game had to be decided on penalties.

It was a great final to watch with the nearby community coming to witness the talent of these future Bafana Bafana stars. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Thabiso ‘Madida’ Nkoko said it was a day well spent watching talent galore. According to him, the tournament gave these upcoming stars a platform to showcase their talent.

“We witnessed a great development in football with these youngsters displaying quality football. I do not doubt that everyone went home satisfied from what they saw. It was an exciting tournament and we are already looking forward to next year’s tournament,” said Nkoko.
