Ward Councillor demands answers as power outage drags on

Gert (ward councillor) once again attempted to contact the relevant authorities and still received no feedback on the process to restore electricity.

VANDERBIJLPARK – CW residents and other affected areas have once again been left in the dark without electricity, or proper communication, and are now gatvol of Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) and their lack of communication on the matter. Gert Cronje hit the nail on the head this morning, saying that all affected residents are GATVOL!

Gert (ward councillor) once again attempted to contact the relevant authorities and still received no feedback on the process to restore electricity. This resulted in an official notice to the Executive Mayor and other parties in charge:

Since 27 May 2025, the CW areas have been plunged into darkness, with only seven days of intermittent electricity over this extended period.

Bonané, NW7, Muvango, and Boiphelong have also been affected, though to a lesser degree.

To date, no reliable or transparent communication has been provided.

Furthermore, the affected ward councillors were denied access to the site, and we have been subjected to misinformation and falsehoods issued by the Communications Department.

As concerned residents, we demand the following:

1. No more excuses – We want the truth regarding the cause of this prolonged power outage.

2. A clear and accountable timeline for the full restoration of electricity to the affected areas.

3. A timeline for the commissioning of the additional transformers currently on site.

4. A formal offer of compensation for financial losses and increased living costs incurred due to this ongoing failure.

Mass action by residents

If these demands are not met by 16:00 today, Monday 23 June 2025, we will begin a mass mobilisation of residents.

Additionally, I will call upon all residents in the affected areas to consider initiating a payment boycott until these issues are adequately resolved.

A public response is expected without delay.

I strongly urge you not to underestimate the resolve of this community.
