SEDIBENG.- As things stand, it seems as if women are something of the past in the Vaal.
Even Sedibeng Ster Sport’s effort to get hold of SAFA Sedibeng for comments on why the women’s soccer league is not playing was unsuccessful.
Sedibeng Ster Sport tried to call the SAFA Sedibeng president, Velaphi Motsepe, to find out why the women’s soccer league is not active in this region, but was met with missed calls and ignored messages. Not long ago, this newspaper (Sedibeng Ster) ran an article about women’s soccer teams accusing SAFA Sedibeng of showing no interest in women’s football since the departure of Beauti Molise and Mandla Dipanyekga.

Under their leadership, as league coordinators, the women’s soccer league was active in this region.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, the representative of the women’s soccer teams said SAFA Sedibeng executive members must also show the same interest they did when Young Pirates FC got promoted to the ABC Motsepe League.
“It is unacceptable for women’s soccer to just die like that in this region. If SAFA Sedibeng doesn’t know that this region has a rich history when it comes to women’s football, they should ask Sedibeng Ster to provide them with archives. This newspaper was instrumental in promoting women’s football in this region. We tried to engage Mr Motsepe, but nothing happened.”
“This is our humble plea to the SAFA Sedibeng Executive: give women’s football the same attention and treatment you give men’s football. Motsepe was all over the media, excited after Young Pirates FC was promoted to the ABC Motsepe League, but when it comes to women’s football, he showed little interest. We, as female football players, demand the same attention.”
“Some of us have been part of women’s football for most of our lives, and we are not going to give up now,” they told Sedibeng Ster Sport.
