MEYERTON – Almost three months after she was reported missing, the search for North-West University Student Naledi Zwane (21) has ended on a joyous note after she was safely brought back home and reunited with her family.

Zwane went missing on June 9, on her way to the Meyerton Licensing Department. Authorities later verified that she never made it to her appointment. As calls for Zwane’s safe return grew, the Meyerton SAPS, working with various stakeholders, carried out multiple search operations in hopes of bringing Zwane home safely.

Members of the Change Bible Church in Vanderbijlpark, led by Bishop Mandla Mthethwa and Lady Bishop Thandi Mthethwa, joined various stakeholders, the Meyerton SAPS and community members, to walk the streets of Meyerton on July 4, calling for her safe return.

Speaking to Ster North, police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini says they had a breakthrough in the case on September 3.

“A good Samaritan spotted Naledi in Pretoria. Thereafter, the parents and authorities were notified. The Meyerton police, together with the mother, followed up on the information and travelled to Pretoria, where they positively identified Naledi and brought her back home safely.”

The Zwane Family has thanked everyone who played a role in getting their daughter back home safely, including the Meyerton SAPS, Meyerton Community Police Forum, K9 unit, REDOPS, Sekuriteit Sonder Grense, IEC, Department of Health, Change Bible Church, family, friends, and all media houses.

Zazini says the incident highlights the Meyerton SAPS’ commitment to serving and protecting the community at all costs.

“This incident is proof that when the SAPS joins forces with various stakeholders and the community, a lot can be achieved.” She thanked everyone who played a role in ensuring that Zwane is brought back home and reunited with her family.
