EVATON.- Vaal Eagles Sports Academy joined millions of South Africans when they embarked on a cleaning campaign as part of Mandela Day.
This team, affiliated under the Sedibeng Netball Federation, took an initiative to clean the school’s premises, which includes the toilets and sports grounds.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mpho Makgatha, who leads the team, said this initiative was made possible by Evaton Mall, which provided the school with a plumber to ensure that the leaks and pipes are fixed, with Nexus Ventures sponsoring cleaning materials. Makgatha said, apart from Mandela Day, as Vaal Eagles Sports Academy, they wanted to ensure that the learners have clean toilets and sports grounds.

Makgatha told Sedibeng Ster Sport that this was the first time their team participated in something on Mandela Day, and they intend to do it every year at this time. She believes that sport can play an important role in the community, apart from the field of play.

“We decided to join many South Africans this Mandela Day to do something extraordinary in our community. We want to thank the school principal, teachers, and everyone who joined hands on the day. Like I said earlier, sport is not only taking place on the field of play. We have a role to play in our society off the field. It was such a great feeling to see how much the school appreciated our effort. We want to thank our girls for the commitment they showed on the day to make a difference in their community,” said Makgatha.
