Former PSL player condemns booing of players
It was just unfortunate that he had a bad game, but this doesn’t mean that one bad game means you’re a bad player.
SEDIBENG.- Former Orlando Pirates defender Lucky Lekgwathi condemned booing players.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport during the MTN8 Trophy Tour at the MooiVaal Media offices in Vanderbijlpark, Lekgwathi said the booing of players is uncalled for.
Pirates supporters booed Tshepang Moremi, who comes from Vaal, after he came in as a substitute against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 first leg semi-finals at Orlando Stadium recently.
The two teams played to a 1-1 draw after Sundowns shocked many when they took the lead. Pirates supporters took their frustration out on the players, with Moremi being the main “victim” of “boo boys”.

Lekgwathi told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he is going to address this issue of booing players with the club’s supporters’ branches across the country. He said this was an unfortunate situation with players like Moremi, who is new at the club, experiencing this kind of treatment from the supporters.
These Sharpeville-born youngsters were among the players that the Pirates signed during the off-season from Amazulu. He did have a great game against Sundowns, coming in as a sub, and the supporters became impatient.
“I have already started the campaign to address this situation with a section of other clubs’ supporters. It is a work in progress, and I’m happy that their response is positive, and we can only take it from there. The boy is new at the club, and he is a talented player in PSL. I do not doubt that he is going to be an asset to this team. It was just unfortunate that he had a bad game, but this doesn’t mean that one bad game means you’re a bad player. He is still young and there is a great future ahead of him,” said Lekgwathi.
The positive thing is that three local boys will be playing in the MTN8 final: Relebohile Mofokeng, Boitumelo Radiopane, and Moremi.
