Law and order prevails during Operation Shanela
This large-scale, multidisciplinary operation involved 195 officers and law enforcement partners supported by a fleet of 69 vehicles.
The SAPS in Sedibeng District, under the leadership of Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho carried out Operation Shanela 2 in the Meyerton and Kliprivier policing precincts on September 4.
This large-scale, multidisciplinary operation involved 195 officers and law enforcement partners supported by a fleet of 69 vehicles.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela says, “The operation focused on crime hotspots, major roads, and business centers, to curb criminal activities and increase public safety.”
As part of the ongoing Safer Schools Programme, Maxamebela reports that members from Social Crime Prevention engaged with the local youth by delivering a school talk that reached over 1200 learners.

The educational initiative aimed to raise awareness around social issues and prevent youth involvement in crime.
During the operation, authorities issued 45 traffic fines totaling R27 200. A total of 63 arrests were made for various offenses, including illegal immigration, drug possession, liquor-related violations, damage to infrastructure, attempted murder, assault, and housebreaking.

Notable recoveries included 23 grams of crystal meth, 1 200 illicit cigarettes, 67 litres of liquor, and approximately 130 kilograms of copper cables valued at R13 000.
In Kliprivier, police spokesperson Sergeant Tintswalo Ndhambi confirmed that officers arrested 14 illegal immigrants. Ndhambi said these efforts highlight the efforts of the SAPS in making the country a place where law and order are maintained.
Major General Mukwevho commended the collaborative efforts of SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs, local traffic wardens, and community partners. She emphasised that Operation Shanela continues to make a significant impact in disrupting criminal activities and improving safety in local communities.
