ELM launches Vaal River Carnival

"We are going to use this opportunity to make sure that the Vaal rediscovers its place in society."

SEDIBENG. – All roads led to the Kgalala Palace in Bophelong on September 4.

This was where the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), in partnership with local enterprises, launched the 22nd edition of the Vaal River Carnival (VRC), which began last weekend.

The VRC event will be showcasing a mixture of talent from September 6 to October 4.

In totality, VRC will comprise the following, amongst others:

  • On September 13, an UltraMog Session is hosting a one-of-one deep house experience at Emfuleni River Park.
  • The Steve Lekoelea Youth Development Soccer festival kicks off on September 13 at George Thabe Stadium in Sharpeville, with Soccer Clinics and a Career Expo for boys and girls aged 10 – 17.

Speaking at the launch, ELM’s Ben Manzi said that VRC will be used as a tool to promote tourism in the area and also to provide livelihoods for the local community.

“We need to take this opportunity to promote the Vaal, not forgetting that the ELM is also evolving into a municipality of choice. We are going to use this opportunity to make sure that the Vaal rediscovers its place in society. We need to put it back where it was in its glory days.”
