Vaal Triangle’s own Mother Teresa shines at Gauteng awards
Her work extends beyond charity – it is about restoring dignity, building hope, and showing that resilience thrives in even the toughest of times.
SEBOKENG.- Vaal Triangle’s own Mother Teresa, Maria Molefi, stood tall at VITA Basadi Awards held at Johannesburg City Hall recently.
The Basadi Awards, hosted by the Gauteng Legislature, celebrate and recognise women, volunteers, and role models who have made a significant impact in the community in Gauteng.

Molefi was named runner-up for the Community Heroine Award, a recognition that speaks not only of her tireless work but also to the spirit of the community she so proudly represents. For decades, Molefi has been known for her open heart and commitment dedicated to feeding the hungry, caring for vulnerable families, and mentoring the youth who often see her as their grandmother, a guide and a friend.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Molefi said she has dedicated her life to the Vaal Triangle people. She said her work extends beyond charity – it is about restoring dignity, building hope, and showing that resilience thrives in even the toughest of times.
She told Sedibeng Ster that the VITA Basadi Awards are part of the flagship Women’s Month programme, celebrating the strength of those extraordinary women whose love and courage uplift entire communities.
Molefi is the founder member of SILO Sintute of Love.
“This recognition reminds the province and the nation that the Vaal Triangle is not just a place of industry and heritage but also of extraordinary people who work tirelessly to change the lives of their communities,” she concluded.
