MEYERTON – Midvaal Local Municipality officially launched Transport Month on October1, with a display of its Traffic and Fire & Rescue vehicles, highlighting its ongoing investment in safety services and its commitment to protecting residents on the road and in their communities.
Midvaal Fire & Rescue operates 12 vehicles from two fully equipped fire stations, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the municipality and surrounding areas. This essential service is further enhanced by the Fire Prevention Association, which is supported by more than 70 firefighting trailers to assist in firebreak creation and wildfire response in remote areas.
According to the municipality, in the past financial year, the department responded to 1 435 emergency calls. “Maintaining a high standard of service, the team consistently meets its rapid response targets by dispatching vehicles within one minute during the day and within two minutes at night. Their dedication goes beyond operations: the team recently earned 24 medals at the prestigious Drager Up Combat and Rescue Challenge, a testament to their skills and commitment.”
Fire services are a vital function of local government, and Midvaal is proud to fulfill this responsibility.
“Our strength lies not only in our equipment and infrastructure, but in the unwavering dedication of the men and women who serve our communities every day. Midvaal Traffic Services continues to intensify enforcement efforts to promote road safety.”
The department currently operates a fleet of 28 patrol vehicles, with six new vehicles being introduced during Transport Month. This expanded fleet will enhance visibility, enforcement capacity, and support for ongoing road safety initiatives throughout the municipality. To ensure accountability and transparency, all traffic officers are equipped with body cameras, and patrol vehicles are fitted with dash cameras.
“Our officers are here to protect all road users. We urge residents to obey traffic laws, settle outstanding fines, and actively contribute to creating safer roads. Road safety must be a year-round priority, not just during Transport Month.”
