Moreki driven by deep passion

"Seeing players gain confidence, discipline, and purpose because of the support and guidance they receive reminds me of why I do what I do."

SEDIBENG.- Sedibeng Ster Sport looks at the journey of one of the women football administrators from Sedibeng.

Mmathabo Moreki is one of the longest-serving football administrators with more than 10 years of experience in the sport.

She is known as one of the most knowledgeable women football administrators to come from this region, yet humbled and down to earth. Her passion for football is unquestionable as she spends most of her time at the soccer fields during the week and on weekends. Her journey is an inspiration to other women who may still think that football is a men’s sport.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Moreki said she is driven by a deep passion for the game and the sense of unity it brings to people. She explained that the first thing that drew her to football was not just the excitement of the sport itself, but the power it has to bring communities together and inspire growth both on and off the field.

Over time, her involvement grew from being a mere supporter to taking an active role in developing and managing teams, creating opportunities for others, especially young players, to showcase their talent.

“What inspires me most is the ability to make a real difference in someone’s life through football. Seeing players gain confidence, discipline, and purpose because of the support and guidance they receive reminds me of why I do what I do. Football, to me, is more than just a game; it’s a platform for change, empowerment, and personal growth. My goal has always been to help others realise their potential, build character, and open doors to a better future through the sport I love,” she told Sedibeng Ster Sport.

Moreki is currently involved with the SAFA Sedibeng Hollywood Men’s Regional League club, Moponisi, formerly Mmabatho FC. She was also part of the NWU Vaal FC when the team was still campaigning in the ABC Motsepe League. Her career spans across the elite university football industry, teams, semi-professional men’s and women’s squads, and youth development structures.

With a strong background in football management, administration, and athlete wellness, she has proven leadership in both competitive and developmental football environments.

She currently works with FemCare Physios, contributing to player recovery and sports performance management.
