HENLEY ON KLIP – A 48-year-old man was gunned down outside his home just after 08:15 on Tuesday, shortly after returning from a nearby shop where he had gone to buy bread.

According to a member of the local Community Policing Forum (CPF), who was out on a routine morning walk, an unknown man was seen standing a short distance from the victim’s gate moments before the shooting. The witness had barely passed the individual when the sound of multiple gunshots echoed through the area.

Emergency services were called immediately, but despite rapid response from paramedics and police, the man was declared dead on the scene.

According to police, robbery is not believed to be the motive. Meyerton Police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini confirmed that all of the victim’s possessions, including an expensive wristwatch, were found intact.

“At this stage, the evidence does not point to robbery, and our detectives are investigating other possible motives.”

She added that investigators are following up on several leads and urged residents to assist where possible. “We appeal to anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area at the time to contact the police. Any information, no matter how small, may help,” she said.

Specialist units, including the Local Criminal Record Centre and Forensic Pathology Services, attended the scene. The case is being investigated as a murder.
