DA announces Motsamai as Lesedi mayoral candidate
“He is the leader who will return basic service delivery, make Lesedi viable for business again."
SEDIBENG. – The DA has officially named Mokete Motsamai as its candidate for executive mayor of the Lesedi Local Municipality.
The announcement, made on Friday, signals the party’s intent to flip the municipality, which the ANC currently governs under Mayor Mluleki Nkosi.

Motsamai is no stranger to local government. A long-term resident of the region, he currently serves as a Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Corporate Services in the nearby Midvaal Local Municipality. Together with Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) and the Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM), the Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM) falls under the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM).
The DA believes Motsamai can bring Midvaal’s reputation for stable governance to Lesedi.
“He is the leader who will return basic service delivery, make Lesedi viable for business again, and return this municipality to a place its residents are proud to call home. We are proud to put Mokete forward as a candidate. Ke nako ya Lesedi – It’s time for Lesedi,” the party said.
In his acceptance speech Motsamai took a direct aim at the current administration.
“I believe that Lesedi deserves better, I believe that Lesedi can be a municipality that works, not only for a few politically connected but for everyone,” he said.
