Vumani bo – Chiefs or Pirates?

Form counts for nothing whenever these two meet.

SEDIBENG.- With six players from the Vaal Triangle likely to be part of the Soweto derby, we have all the reasons to look forward to this year’s derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

These two South African football giants will face each other in the Betway Premiership League fixture at FNB Stadium on February 28. Much has been said and written about this much-anticipated derby.

Zakes’ Sports Corner is also looking forward to this historical derby, with my loyalty divided. My soul says Orlando Pirates, and my heart says Kaizer Chiefs!

Yours truly, Zakes’ Sports Corner grew up supporting Amakhosi; however, this was long before I became a sports journalist.

In fact, growing up, the whole family supported this club, and I had no choice. However, this is something of the past; things have changed.

My loyalty is divided.

Local soccer fans are expected to fill the FNB Stadium to watch this derby.

No doubt, Relebohile Rele and Tshepang Moremi will definitely be on the starting lineup for Pirates, while others might start on the bench.

The two have proven beyond doubt that they are players for a big occasion.

The other players from the Vaal who are likely to be part of this derby are Mpho Chabatsane, Thabiso Lebitso, Boitumelo Radiopana (Orlando Pirates), and Naledi Hlongwane (Kaizer Chiefs).

The local soccer fans are expected to paint the Zone 11, Sebokeng Post Office, in black and white, and black and gold as a meeting point for departure to the stadium. This has been the traditional venue where local soccer fans meet since the days of the late Mzion Mofokeng, who was known as Orlando Pirates’ No. 1 Supporter.

May his soul continue to rest in peace!

Form counts for nothing whenever these two meet, whether in a friendly or official match. It is not about three points, but pride and bragging rights.
