Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act (SASREA)

The workshop will bring together key stakeholders, including representatives from the SAPS, traffic services, fire and rescue services, environmental health practitioners, event organisers, and other relevant departments.

SEDIBENG.- The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) under the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts, Culture, and Library Information will be hosting a workshop on the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act (SASREA) aimed at improving safety management and compliance during sports, entertainment, and recreational events.

The workshop will bring together key stakeholders, including representatives from the SAPS, traffic services, fire and rescue services, environmental health practitioners, event organisers, and other relevant departments.

The ELM said that the purpose of the workshop is to empower event organisers on the legislative requirement of complying with SASREA Act 2 of 2000, strengthen co-ordination among stakeholders, and ensure that all events hosted within the municipality comply with national safety regulations.

The workshop will further guide event organisers on the importance of proper planning, risk categorisation, and safety measures required when hosting events.

“Through this engagement, the municipality aims to mitigate the possible risk to the life of patrons, participants, and the general public. The workshop will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to share challenges experienced in implementing the SASREA and the best practices as a solution to improve compliance by event organisers.”

The municipality encourages all event organisers and relevant stakeholders to attend this important workshop as part of our collective effort to ensure safe and successful events.
