PAC exits coalition governments in ELM and SDM amid Kantso’s dismissal
The PAC has severed ties with the ruling party.
SEDIBENG.- The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) has announced that it is no longer part of the coalition governments in both the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) and the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM).
This new and immediate development follows the official removal of PAC Councillor, Cllr Mbuyiseni Kantso, from the Mayoral Committee of Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) with effect from yesterday April 8.

PAC’s Apa Pooe said that the removal of the PAC from executive responsibilities in ELM, together with related political developments in Sedibeng, effectively marks the end of the coalition arrangements between the PAC and the African National Congress (ANC) in these municipalities.
Pooe added that the PAC did not enter coalition governments for comfort, prestige, or positions.
The PAC refuses to be a silent partner…
“We entered these arrangements to advance the historic mission of the liberation struggle: the restoration of the land, the dignity, and the sovereignty of the African people. Our insistence on accountability and ethical governance—expressed through the tabling of motions of no confidence—was a revolutionary act in defence of the masses who continue to suffer under the weight of collapsing service delivery, corruption, and administrative decay. The PAC refuses to be a silent partner in the betrayal of our people,” Pooe said.
The position remains vacant
ELM Mayoral spokesperson, Mphikeleli Msibi said, “I can confirm that Cllr Kantso has been released from his responsibilities as MMC of Local Economic Development effective immediately. The Executive Mayor has not yet appointed a replacement for Cllr Kantso as MMC and no person has been acting. The position remains vacant since yesterday.”
Meanwhile, The Democratic Alliance’s (DA), Daddy Mollo said that the removal of Kantso by Radebe is yet another clear sign of instability and political opportunism within the African National Congress-led coalition in Emfuleni.
“This coalition is driven by political survival…”
“This is not the first time such action has been taken. Previously, the ANC removed coalition partners while conveniently protecting their own preferred individuals — exposing a pattern of selective accountability and self-interest. The constant reshuffling of positions between the Pan Africanist Congress and now potential alignment with the Economic Freedom Fighters shows that this coalition is not driven by service delivery, but by political survival and power struggles,” Mollo said.
