MMC Ndwandwe goes with the ANC to the local government elections
" I am aware of the implications of my decision."
SEDIBENG.- Nkosinathi Gadisizwe Ndwandwe, the current Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Transport and Infrastructure in the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) has pledged his full support for the African National Congress (ANC) in the Local Government Elections (LGE) that will be held in the country at a date to be announced this year.
The support comes at a time where the African National Congress (ANC) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) are at loggerheads about the upcoming LGE with the SACP saying that it is going to contest the elections on its own.
The ANC has warned SACP against its decision
The SACP is an alliance member of the ANC, and the ANC has strongly warned the SACP against going on its own in the elections.
Ndwandwe recently wrote to the Provincial Secretary of ANC Gauteng Province, the Regional Secretary of ANC Sedibeng region, the Branch Secretary of ANC Ward 7, the General Secretary SACP, and the Provincial Secretary of SACP Gauteng Province pledging his support for the ANC.
Ndwandwe is a lifelong member of the African National Congress (ANC), and also a member of the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the SACP in Gauteng.
In the letter he said, “I reside and hold my ANC membership in Bophelong ward 7, Emfuleni local municipality. I am currently aware that of the recent decision by the ANC national executive committee (NEC) regarding the SACP’s resolution to contest future elections, including the forthcoming local government election (LGE) in 2026.”
He is aware of the implications of his decision
Ndwandwe warned that he is aware his decision has implications for members of the SACP who are also bona fide members of the ANC.
“My political home and political loyalty reside exclusively in the African National Congress. My understanding of the objectives of the NDR is clear. The ANC is the leader of the alliance and the primary strategic centre of the struggle for national liberation, social emancipation, and the construction of non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa,” he said.
He explained that, according to him, no other organisation, including the SACP, can displace the historic and political role of the ANC as the leader of the society.
“It is the understanding that compels me to remain a loyal, discipline, and active member of the ANC. I wish to state, with respect and without any hostility towards my comrades in the SACP, that I will campaign for the ANC in this local government elections, I do not support SACP to contest elections independently. I trust that the leadership of the ANC understands that comrades like myself who hold dual membership must follow our conscience when the interest of the ANC are at stake. I remain ready to serve the ANC and our people at all times.”
” Yes, I am supporting the ANC.”
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Ndwandwe confirmed the existence of the letter, “Yes I am supporting ANC,” he said.
Ndwandwe concluded that he understands and accepts that the SACP as a sovereign organisation, has the right to take such decision, “However, as a member of both organisations, my political conscience does not allow me to campaign for or support any political party that stands against the ANC in any election. I remain a member of the SACP in good standing, but on this specific strategic question, I will campaign for the ANC through exercising my right to disagree.”
SACP Vaal Sedibeng Secretary, Thembinkosi Pulu said, “He is not supporting the SACP he will remain with the ANC.”
