SAVF Vanderbijlpark closes doors

"It is no longer viable to continue services at this facility."

VANDERBIJLPARK.- The Suid-Afrikaanse Vrouefederasie (South African Women’s Federation) (SAVF) has confirmed the decision to close its SAVF Vanderbijlpark Shelter, effective end of April.

The organisation said that the closure of the shelter was a difficult decision.

SAVF’s Bongekile Chabangu, Chief Social Worker, said that as a non-profit organisation, the sustainability of services and the quality of care provided to beneficiaries remain their highest priorities.

The facility has been operating at a loss for some time now…

She added that the facility has been operating at a significant loss for some time now and is therefore not sustainable.

“Despite ongoing efforts by staff, volunteers, and the organisation, increasing operational and maintenance costs have made it no longer viable to continue services at this facility. This decision was made in consultation with relevant state departments, with careful consideration given to the wellbeing of all beneficiaries. SAVF is committed to ensuring that every affected individual receives the necessary support and guidance to secure appropriate alternative care and services.”

The organisation extended appreciation to its staff and volunteers for their years of service and their continued support during the transition.

122 years in service…

SAVF is in operation since 1904, celebrating 122 years of services in 2026. it is registered as a non-profit organisation and deals with early childhood development, child- and youth care, foster care, safe homes, child protection, preventative and therapeutic programmes, empowerment of teenagers and mothers and fathers, family care, root enquiries, community programmes such as empowerment, skills development, poverty eradication, HIV programmes, employee health and wellness, aged care in homes, housing, luncheon clubs, drop-in centres, home support services, and many more.
