ActionSA welcomes calls for accountability and an SIU proclamation in ELM

Only presidential intervention could restore accountability and public trust.

SEDIBENG.- The Sedibeng ActionSA has said that it welcomes the growing calls for what is said is accountability and a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) proclamation into the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).

The party also welcomed the recent “intervention” by ANC councillors in Sedibeng who called a press briefing calling for the SIU investigation into what they said are conditions that have deteriorated to the point where they believe only presidential intervention could restore accountability and public trust.

ActionSA has raised serious concerns regarding corruption…

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Bongani Dhlamini ActionSA, Sedibeng Regional Chair, said that for years, ActionSA has consistently raised serious concerns regarding corruption, governance failures, irregular expenditure, the R16 million fleet management scandal, forensic investigation findings and collapse of basic service delivery in Emfuleni.

“ActionSA done so in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature through public statements, oversight interventions and direct engagements on behalf of the residents of Emfuleni who continue to suffer the consequences of corruption and political instability. While we note what appears to be a sudden Damascus moment from certain ANC councillors, residents of Emfuleni know that ActionSA has long been at the forefront of the fight for accountability, consequence management and clean governance in the municipality.”

“The reality remains the same…”

Dhlamini further said that whether the recent calls, by the ANC councillors, are driven by genuine concerns or internal ANC factional dynamics, the reality remains the same.

“The allegations are serious, the forensic findings are alarming and accountability can no longer be delayed. ActionSA therefore reiterates it’s call for for Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi to urgently request President Cyril Ramaphosa to issue an SIU Proclamation into Emfuleni Local Municipality.”

He ended by saying that, “Public money must be recovered, those responsible for wrongdoing must face the law, and residents of Emfuleni deserves a municipality that works for them.”

Contesting 2026 LGE

Meanwhile, ActionSA has confirmed that it will be contesting the 2026 Local Governemnt Elections (LGE) in Sedibeng including Emfuleni, Lesedi and Midvaal Local Municipalities.

The party said that the mayoral candidate application was publicly advertised in all social media platforms, interviews were held and that they are now waiting for mayoral the candidates’ selection committee to announce the results.

“ActionSA Sedibeng is now at the stage of publicly opening applications for Ward Councillor Candidates under ActionSA to the residents of Sedibeng. We want to ensure that your participation and you are given opportunity to be part of this process is guaranteed.”
