SEDIBENG.- Bafana Bafana have bowed out of the Fifa World Cup 2026 following a 1-0 defeat to Canada in their Round of 32 clash at Los Angeles Stadium on Sunday.

South Africa came into this fixture as favourites, riding high on the confidence of their historic victory against South Korea. For the many South Africans who gathered at Fan Parks to watch the game on big screens, the final whistle brought a deep sense of disappointment, making it feel as though doomsday was around the corner.

Despite the heartbreak of being eliminated from the global tournament, Bafana Bafana have made history by qualifying for the last 32 for the very first time. They have made the nation proud by reaching the knockout stages, an achievement the country is not accustomed to. Because of this, many South Africans are expected to give the team a heroic welcome when they arrive back in the country on Wednesday.

With head coach Hugo Broos having made it clear that he intends to retire after the World Cup, several coaches have already lined up for the job. It is reported that Pitso Mosimane is among those who have applied for the job. However, it remains to be seen whether the South African Football Association (SAFA) will hire Mosimane, given that he has already led Bafana Bafana.
