A promise honoured…communities supported
"Listening to communities is just as important as delivering services.”
SEBOKENG. – The Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Tasneem Motara, together with Emfuleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Hassan Makoa, returned to Sebokeng Ext 28—exactly one month this week after handing over homes to beneficiaries.
The visit, it was said, was meant to fulfil a commitment made during the housing handover: to come back, sit down over tea and hear directly from residents about how they are settling into their new homes.

The programme also included the handover of furniture to a child-headed household through the generosity of the development partners, as well as food parcels to indigent families, reinforcing the importance of working together to support vulnerable members of the community.

“Building sustainable human settlements goes beyond handing over keys. It is about restoring dignity, strengthening communities and ensuring beneficiaries continue to receive support long after they move into their homes,” the department said.

The day concluded with the Gauteng Provincial Government’s Imbizo Wednesdays in Midvaal, where communities and government come together to engage on issues that matter most to them
The residents of Midvaal had the opportunity to interact directly with Motara, alongside members of the Provincial Executive Council and local leadership.
“Because listening to communities is just as important as delivering services.”
