SEDIBENG.- The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) has announced its readiness for the upcoming Local Government Elections (LGE).

The party’s Secretary General, Apa Pooe, said the announcement is not merely about presenting individual candidates but a declaration that the PAC is organised, rebuilding and ready to offer the people of South Africa a credible alternative government.

“Across our country, municipalities have become centres of corruption, patronage and political entitlement. Communities are confronted daily by collapsing infrastructure, sewage flowing through streets and homes, unreliable water and electricity supplies, deteriorating roads, uncollected refuse and municipal administrations that are increasingly disconnected from the people they are supposed to serve,” Pooe said.

Meanwhile, the party has announced former Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) MMC for Local Economic Development (LED), Mbuyiselo Gantsu as its Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) mayoral candidate.

Sebokeng-born and former party member, Thami Ka Plaatjie, has also rejoined the party and is its City of Johannesburg mayoral candidate.

“We also proudly announce the return to the PAC of members who had previously joined the ANC, particularly Thami ka Plaatjie. The PAC is further welcoming new members from RISE Mzansi, the Patriotic Alliance and the Mayibuye Party. In the North West, the PAC has also been joined by members coming from the EFF. Their decision to join the PAC is further evidence that serious political activists and ordinary citizens are searching for a principled, disciplined and credible political home.”

The PAC will officially launch its 2026 LGE Manifesto on August 29 in Soweto.

“The PAC is rebuilding. The PAC is growing. The PAC is organising. The PAC is ready to govern. The PAC is contesting to win. We invite the people of Azania to join us as we work to reclaim municipalities, restore dignity and build accountable local government,” Pooe ended.
