SACP gets ready to announce local 2026 LGE candidates
The SACP, an alliance member of the ruling party, the ANC, has announced that it will be entering the race for the 2026 LGE as a solo entity.
SEDIBENG.- Following the launch of its 2026 Local Government Election (LGE) in Pretoria on Sunday, the South African Communist Party (SACP) Vaal announced that it will soon be ready to announce its candidates for mayoral and councillor seats in Sedibeng.
Much to many people’s surprise, the SACP, an alliance member of the ruling party, the ANC, has announced that it will be entering the race for the 2026 LGE as a solo entity.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster last week, SACP Vaal District Secretary, Thembinkosi Pulu, said that they are still busy with the finer details in preparation for the LGE (including candidate selection).
The SACP remains committed to its resolution to contest the upcoming local government elections and sees no contradiction between its decision and sustaining the alliance.
The party’s primary focus, it said earlier this year, remains establishing a strong working-class base for sustained socialist struggles while utilising electoral opportunities to defend national democratic ideals and consolidate the transformation project.
