ORANGE FARMS.- A suspect has been arrested and charged with possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and attempted murder in Orange Farms.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Shaan Motsapi, said that on Wednesday (August 19) at Ext.2 at approximately 08:00, a complaint was received regarding a man who had allegedly been hijacked in the Bhekane area by two suspects who had allegedly hired the bakkie to collect their belongings there.

It was further reported that his brother had been stabbed with a knife during the altercation.

The vehicle was stopped, whereupon two men fled on foot.

Motsapi added that a description of the vehicle was provided, and the police members swiftly responded to the incident.

“While patrolling along Golden Highway, next to Duzenehlela Primary School, the police members identified a bakkie matching the description of the suspected hijacked vehicle. The vehicle was stopped, whereupon two men fled on foot. The police pursued the suspects and successfully apprehended one of them. The other suspect is still at large.”

Upon searching the vehicle, Motsapi said, police recovered a knife with apparent blood on it, as well as a cellphone believed to belong to the suspect/s.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and detained for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and attempted murder.

He will soon appear at the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court.
