Inmate convicted of raping fellow prisoner in cell

SEDIBENG.- The Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court has convicted and sentenced 51-year-old Tshepiso Simon Nhlapo to 20 years’ imprisonment for rape and declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

The incident occurred on September 21, 2024, at about 22:00, when the 35-year-old victim was sleeping in his cell at the Groenpunt Maximum Correctional Centre with other inmates.

The victim was awakened by the suspect, who allegedly raped him and threatened him not to tell anyone.

The following morning, the matter was reported to Deneysville SAPS.
