A stern warning about tampering with essential infrastructure has been issued by the police in De Deur, after a man was electrocuted by an electric transformer on September 16. The incident happened on Rose Road.

Police spokesperson Constable Mampho Mahlomola reports that on arrival at the scene, police found the lifeless body of a man, and on further investigations found copper cables in a backpack on the ground next to the electric transformer poles.

“The man was declared dead by members of the EMS. A case of inquest and tempering with essential infrastructure has been launched and investigations are ongoing.

“We urge members of the community to refrain from tampering with essential infrastructure as it is a is a criminal offense and also endangers people’s lives.”

Mahlomola states that those found guilty of the crime with be arrested. She urges members of the community to report any criminal activities to the nearest police station or Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111.
