Mysterious fire at Evaton Police Station
The affected office block had been utilised for the opening of case dockets during Operation Shanela.
EVATON.- A mysterious fire broke out at the Evaton Police Station in the early hours of Sunday.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela, said that according to preliminary information, at approximately 02:00, members conducting a station inspection noticed a fire in the Visible Policing (VISPOL) Boardroom and alerted the Relief Commander.
The members, Maxambela said, attempted to contain the fire using fire extinguishers.
However, due to the intensity of the flames, they were unable to enter the affected building.
“The Emfuleni Fire Department was contacted, and firefighters arrived at approximately 02:40. The fire was subsequently extinguished.”
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
