Suspect rapes domestic worker, steals police firearm and shoots at police

DE DEUR.- The Vereeniging TRT police members arrested a suspect on Wednesday morning following a shootout with the police at approximately 00:30.
It is said that the TRT C Relief members were responding to a complaint after it was reported that a suspect had allegedly raped a domestic worker and stolen a state-issued firearm from his sister, who is a SAPS member, stationed at Brixton SAPS.
Our members gave chase.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela, said that upon police’s arrival at residence in Savanna City, De Deur, the suspect allegedly fled in a silver Toyota Starlet.
“Our members gave chase, during which the suspect allegedly fired shots at police. Police returned fire during the pursuit. The suspect’s vehicle later came to a stop in the Lyttelton policing area after losing control.”

Maxambela said that the suspect was found with a gunshot wound to the upper right thigh and was transported to Tembisa Hospital where he is under police guard.
The suspect is charged with rape, attempted murder and possession of a stolen state firearm.
The firearm was recovered and booked in at SAPS Lyttelton.
