Coaches are to blame for poor performance: Dlamini

Some of the players didn’t have IDs or passports. Dlamini also revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport that they didn’t have enough time to prepare the team for Safa’s biggest youth tournament in the country.

SEDIBENG. – Despite the poor performance of the Safa Sedibeng Squad at the U/17 Future Champions Gauteng Tournament, Themba Dlamini, who was acting regional coach believes that documents and lack of experience was the main reason for the team’s performance or rather, lack thereof.

Dlamini was roped in after Zacharia Nale, who was appointed by Safa Sedibeng stepped down as the regional coach due to unforeseen circumstances. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Dlamini said the biggest challenge they encountered prior to the tournament was last- minute preparations and lack of proper documents.
Some of the players didn’t have IDs or passports. Dlamini also revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport that they didn’t have enough time to prepare the team for Safa’s biggest youth tournament in the country.
“These boys have tried very hard and I cannot blame them that we didn’t have enough time to get to know each other.
“Look, we were in the same group with Chiefs and Super-Sport United and their players have massive experience because they play in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge. It is also important to note that our boys don’t even play in SAB League or Super League, but here they were expected to compete against the best in the country,” said Dlamini who was assisted by Master Zondo on the bench.
On the other hand, Dlamini blamed the development coaches in this region for not encouraging their players to apply for IDs and passports. He believes it is the development coaches’ responsibility to ensure that the youngsters have relevant documents.
As if this was not enough, Dlamini said he suspects that there are some coaches who sabotage the region by not bringing their players for selection.
According to Dlamini many players didn’t come to the trials they just didn’t know about it. Safa Sedibeng lost two opening games against Kaizer Chiefs (6), Super-Sport United before they played to a goalless draw against Claphim High School in the last game.
