SEDIBENG.- While much of the attention in the SAFA Sedibeng Hollywoodbets Men’s Regional League falls on the teams at the top of the table, Sedibeng Ster Sport believes the men between the posts are proving to be the real heroes of the season.

If there were a Goalkeeper of the Season award, the competition would be a tight race between Thulani Mpikiche of Perfect Academy, Neo Sekoala of Ben 10 FC, and Nthabeleng Xaba of Metro Stars.

These three players have been in sensational form, and they are the primary reason their clubs are currently fighting for the league title. Ben 10 FC is topping the log thanks to Sekoala, who has been outstanding as the last line of defense.

Similarly, Metro Stars FC made a strong comeback as a serious contender for the league title, following a brilliant performance by Xaba, who stood firm to secure a recent victory against Perfect Academy.

Perfect Academy’s own Mpikiche has also drawn attention for his unique style. Known for his footwork and ability to distribute the ball, many compare him to former Kaizer Chiefs star Itumeleng Khune. While his high level of confidence and flair can occasionally be risky, he remains one of the finest keepers in the league today.

This talent must be protected

Unfortunately, there is no official award to recognise these top-class performances at the end of the season. These are the kinds of talents that must be protected and nurtured for top-flight football. If any of these teams go on to win the league, a huge amount of credit must go to their goalkeepers.

All three players told Sedibeng Ster that their main goal is to help their clubs win the league and earn promotion to the ABC Motsepe League.
