They must go out there and showcase their talent in the global stage: former Bafana star
"I do not doubt that our boys will show the world what they are capable of."
SEDIBENG.- Former Bafana Bafana dreadlocked midfielder Augustine ‘Mthakathi’ Makalakalane wishes Bafana Bafana good luck ahead of their Fifa World Cup 2026 opening match.
South Africa starts their World Cup campaign against co-host Mexico at Mexico City Stadium on June 11.
Kick-off time is at 21:00 (South African time).
In an exclusive interview with Sedibeng Ster Sport, Makalakalane, who was part of Bafana Bafana’s Class of 96, is confident South Africa will have a great World Cup campaign.
Bafana-Bafana must go out there and showcase their God-given talent.
He said Bafana Bafana must go out there and showcase their God-given talent.
He specifically singled out his Sharpeville homeboys, Relebohile Mofokeng and Tshepang Moremi.
Makalakalane said the two will have a great tournament if the coach gives them a chance to showcase their talent.

He said Moremi and Mofokeng have been outstanding in the domestic league for their club, Orlando Pirates, and now it is their chance to shine on the global football stage. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport there is a huge difference between a domestic league and a global football tournament.
“Look, I do not doubt that our boys will show the world what they are capable of if the coach gives them a chance to play. This is the biggest stage in the world; it is no longer about coming from the dusty streets of Sharpeville. They must go out there, enjoy, and express themselves because the whole world will be watching. They must listen to the coach and carry out his instructions while expressing themselves. I wish them the best of luck, and as Vaal people, especially coming from my hometown, we are proud of them. We will be rallying behind them throughout the tournament,” said Makalakalane.
