Former PSL legends back Sukuma Lutsha’s fight against Visceral Fat
"The challenge seeks to address broader social concerns linked to poor health, including low self-esteem, mental health challenges, family instability, and lifestyle-related illnesses."
SEBOKENG.- Community wellness organisation, Sukuma Lutsha Developments, NPC is set to host a major Fitness Bootcamp and Visceral Fat Awareness Activation on Saturday, June 27 at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Ground.
The event brings together former Premier Soccer League (PSL) stars, fitness enthusiasts, healthcare advocates and residents in a united effort to combat obesity and promote healthy living.
The activation serves as the official launch of the 2026 Sukuma Lutsha Visceral Fat Challenge.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Luthando Bottoman, from Sukuma Lutsha said that the activation serves as the official launch of the 2026 Sukuma Lutsha Visceral Fat Challenge, an annual health and wellness campaign that has grown into one of the Vaal’s most impactful community-driven fitness initiatives.
Founded by Bottoman, Sukuma Lutsha has championed health promotion, youth development and active lifestyles since 2019.
Through its Visceral Fat Challenge, the organisation has encouraged community members to take responsibility for their physical and emotional well-being while addressing lifestyle diseases that continue to affect many South Africans.

Bottoman said that, this coming Saturday Sukuma Lutsha will have activation that will feature respected former professional footballers such as Augustine Makalakalane (former Mamelodi Sundowns), Peter Khoabane (former SuperSport United), Thabang Rooi (former Kaizer Chiefs), Steve Lekolea (former Orlando Pirates), Avril Phali (former Jomo Cosmos), Vincent Khumalo (former Bay United), Sailor Tshabalala (former Orlando Pirates), Petrus Fifi Sabalee8 (former Mamelodi Sundowns), Motlatsi “Boom Shaka” Mohopelo (Former Orlando Pirates) and Pitso Lekone (former SuperSport United).

The football legends will join Sukuma Lutsha instructors and fitness leaders in motivating participants to adopt healthier lifestyles and raise awareness about the dangers of visceral fat, often referred to as the “hidden fat” surrounding vital organs.
“The Visceral Fat Challenge is about restoring hope, improving health, and empowering people to take control of their lives. Every year we witness incredible transformations and our previous winners stand as proof that positive change is possible when communities come together and support one another,” Bottoman said.

The 2026 Visceral Fat Challenge will officially run from 01 July 2026 until 31 July 2026, during which participants will undergo body assessments, receive fitness guidance and engage in structured physical activities designed to reduce harmful visceral fat levels and improve overall wellness.
Bottoman further said that the month-long programme will culminate in a spectacular Grand Finale on 15 August 2026, where the winner of the 2026 Sukuma Lutsha Visceral Fat Challenge will be crowned.
Organisers anticipate the event will be the largest health and wellness gathering hosted by the organisation to date, attracting community members, fitness clubs, government representatives, healthcare practitioners, sponsors and wellness advocates from across Gauteng.
The challenge seeks to address broader social concerns linked to poor health, including low self-esteem, mental health challenges, family instability, and lifestyle-related illnesses.
“Beyond promoting weight loss and physical fitness, the challenge seeks to address broader social concerns linked to poor health, including low self-esteem, mental health challenges, family instability, and lifestyle-related illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and obesity,” Bottoman said.
The Fitness Bootcamp will also include a variety of activities such as a Mini Run, Bootcamp Session (Luthando William Bottoman), Box Fitness (Dimpho Mpele and Thama Wiben Mabada) and Functional Training (Portia Sabalele Ranges and Lerato Vila), providing participants with an energetic and educational introduction to the challenge.
Supported by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and other stakeholders, the initiative aims to strengthen community health while encouraging active participation in sport and recreation.
Residents of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to attend the free activation event, interact with former football stars, register for the challenge and begin their journey towards a healthier future.
